Our History & Mission

Founded in Tillamook County in 1990, The Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre & Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit Educational Theatre whose mission is to support the Arts in Education and train the next generation of artists. Theatre is a culmination of all Art Forms, so our training workshops, classes, productions, exhibits, and special events like festivals are designed with educational Arts in mind. We also believe that the Actor should be trained in the Fine Arts as well, and the Fine Artist should be trained in Performance Arts, Dance, Puppetry, or some other form of Theatre to give them a well-rounded artistic education.

We have Directors and Staff in both Lincoln County and Tillamook County; we have toured around Oregon, The Pacific Northwest, and 7 Western States, including a tour to Europe in 1997. OCCT was founded because we saw a disparity of Art in Education opportunities especially in rural Oregon and with the many underserved communities in these areas. We are supported by over 15 rotating staff members, trained artists, actors, and educators.

Our main programs are Touring Assembly Programs, Artist in Residency Programs teaching Live Theatre Production, Pageants, The Making of Works of Fine Art, and helping schools and other community sites blend the fine and performing arts into their curriculum.

World Life Poster

Throughout our history, we have had several locations, including a long stint at the Olalla Center for Youth and Families in Toledo (Lincoln County). We moved out of Olalla in 2020, in the middle of the Pandemic. But this was a planned move as Olalla Center was undergoing restoration and growing as an organization. We moved into our new home site, the “Fairview Grange” in Tillamook, in May of 2021.

Tillamook's Fairview Grange

The Fairview Grange is the oldest Grange in Tillamook County and the first one ever built. It was founded in 1895, and in 2025 it will be 130 years old. Our office is located in the Olde Box Office at the Grange which has a long history as both a community site, and a Center for Art and Culture – hosting Live Theatre, Musical Performances, and Events in its Auditorium. The site also has a dining hall and kitchen.

OCCT uses the dining hall as its classroom and the Auditorium for Live Theatre and Special Events. In exchange for low rent from the Grange Board the Educational Art and Culture Charity helps maintain the building and helps with the restoration to the site through volunteer and paid staff work, community volunteer work days, and with support from Foundations and Private Donors. To date, close to $180,000 worth of restoration has been done since 2021 and the work continues.
